Fabric Department

    Of the 12,000 bolts of fabric we have, over 4,000 bolts are quilting fabrics. Since we do not have a catalog or display fabric swatches on the website, we offer a sample service. We will send you up to 6 different ½" strip samples without charge. You must tell us the kind of fabric (cotton, wool, silk, blend, etc.), the color or colors, and the design (solid, plaid, print, theme, etc.) that you are looking for and our salespersons will attempt to match your request to our inventory. They will then send you up to six different samples that they believe closely match your description of the fabric you are requesting. Or you may request that we e-mail you scans of the fabric.

“Shipshewana Blessing Quilt"

Authored and designed by Janis Nelson and Edith Shanholt

This book and quilt, “Shipshewana Blessings,” is a modification of a quilt inspired by a Rebecca Haarer design. Rebecca was commissioned by the town of Shipshewana to design and make a quilt to portray the Potawatomi and the Amish, two cultures that at some point called Shipshewana their home. The blessing theme comes from desire of the original designer for those who inhabited this land and those who now live here to be remembered and blessed.

The Potawatomi culture is represented in the appliqué work in the border and the pieced center block. The Amish solid color blocks are typical of vintage Amish quilts. The tulip designs were used by both cultures.

The book/pattern features 28 pieced blocks around a center block appliqué. The border is a solid with appliqué tulips in the corners.
The book/pattern includes all of the instructions to complete the 54 ½” x 64” top.

The book/pattern is $22.95
Shipping individually for the book is $4.05 USPS priority mail.

The Kit for quilt includes the book/pattern and all of the fabrics for the top, borders and binding (approximately 11 ¼ yards) as pictured. Backing must be purchased separately. Total cost of the Kit is $69.93
