This book and quilt: “Shipshewana Blessings” is a modification of a quilt inspired by a Rebecca Haarer design. Rebecca was commissioned by the town of Shipshewana to design and make a quilt to portray the Potawatomi and the Amish. Two cultures that at one point called Shipshewana their home. The blessing theme comes from desire of the original designer for those who inhabited this land and those who now live here to be remembered and blessed.
The Potawatomi culture is represented in the appliqué work in the border and the pieced center block. The Amish solid color blocks are typical of vintage Amish quilts. The tulip designs were used by both cultures.
The book/pattern features 28 pieced blocks around a center block appliqué. The border is a solid with appliqué tulips in the corners.
The book/pattern includes all of the instructions to complete the 54 ½” x 64” top.
The Shipshewana Blessing Kit includes a total of 11 1/2 yards of solid P&B cottons. This is enough fabric to complete the top including the blocks, borders, and binding. You will need batting and 3 1/4 yards of 45" wide fabric for the backing to complete the quilt.
