CLASSES


BEGINNING SEWING CLASS FOR THE YOUNG & YOUNG AT HEART

Our own Julia Henry will be teaching this beginning class. Her qualifications include: 7 years as a family and consumer educator, Masters level tailoring and over 30 years of sewing experience.

This new, six session class will introduce the basic terms and techniques of sewing.

In this class, using your own sewing machine, you will learn the following skills:

  • Care and use of basic tools and your sewing machine.
  • How to use pattern pieces.
  • What pattern markings means.
  • How to “cut out.”
  • How to machine sew and two basic hand stitches.

To register call the fabric department (260) 768-4887 and ask to speak to Julia or any other fabric department associate. Our regular business hours are Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST Class size: 8 maximum, 4 minimum

Class fees of $75 are due at registration whether you call, come in personally or fax the registration form at the bottom.

You will receive the class supply list when you come to purchase the supplies. Supplies are in addition to the fee. We ask that you purchase your class supplies at Yoder’s prior to class. Any of our fabric sales associates can answer questions you may have about your personal fabric selection or help with locating items on the materials list.

Because class size is limited, you may wish to register early. Dates and times are shown below.

TAILORING CLASSES

Our own Julia Henry will be teaching this class. Her qualifications include: 7 years as a family and consumer educator, Masters level tailoring and over 30 years of sewing experience.

Your knowledge of basic sewing is assumed i.e. use of machine, using patterns and knowledge of basic terms. This new class will increase our knowledge of terms and techniques specific to tailoring.

In this class, using your own sewing machine, you will learn the following skills:

  • Selecting appropriate fabrics and interfacings
  • Proper pressing
  • Use of twill tape
  • Welt pockets
  • Correct Fitting
  • Interfacing techniques
  • Bound button holes
  • Assistance as needed

To register call the fabric department (260) 768-4887 and ask to speak to Julia or any other fabric department associate. Our regular business hours are Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST. Class size: 8 maximum.

BEGINNING QUILTMAKING CLASS

This new class will increase you knowledge of the basic terms and techniques of quilt making. These skills will be the basis of all your creative quilt design and construction.

In this class, using your own sewing machine, you will learn the following skills:

  • Rotary Cutting
  • Piecing Curves
  • Assembly of quilts
  • Binding of Quilts
  • Piecing points
  • Setting in squares and triangles
  • Hand and Machine Applique
  • Other short cuts

Class times available are 9:30 a.m. to 11;00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
